Peggy McCarthy, MBA, and her company, McCarthy Medical Marketing, Inc. (MMM) contribute over twenty years experience in developing highly successful education and communications programs for healthcare professionals, patients, and their caregivers. We contend that better patient care is achieved when professionals, patients and their caregivers learn to communicate more productively. As far back as the early 80s many of our innovative programs focused on improving communication between and amongst these groups.
Our program innovations include:
- research-based tool-kits for use by professionals that continue to serve as models for many of today’s programs
- leadership in assessing patient and caregiver needs that improve healthcare outcomes through direct interviews
- a large catalogue of resources for cancer patients, a major feat before the time of the Internet
- live drama to present medical issues to healthcare audiences
- formalized patient-to-patient communication by developing “buddy” programs

Because Peggy has long believed that the best patient is the educated patient, our work centered on patient education is an important adjunct to all of our professional education programs. Peggy co-authored LUNG CANCER: Myths, Facts, Choices – and Hope (W.W. Norton & Co.) with Claudia Henschke, MD, the radiologist who has conducted ground breaking research on use of the CT for early detection of lung cancer. The book won two awards for being the best medical book for public education. She and her staff have also published two other books, Breast Cancer? Let Me Check My Schedule! and Prostate Cancer: Portraits of Empowerment (both by Westview Press). Learn more about our publications.
MMM recently concluded a clinical study for a product we developed through a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). MedsRight Getting It Right!™ was designed for use by School Nurses and the many school employees who administer medications to students with the ultimate goal of helping nurses reduce medication error rates in schools. This program is also in development for use in other youth and adult settings where medications are administered by non-nurse personnel.
Peggy and her staff approach all projects with passion and expertise.
